The Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States was a genius move by our Founding Fathers, as a way of guaranteeing the protection of Citizens from corrupt politicians and others (like some judges) who harbor secret agendas to limit or take away our unalienable Rights.
The Second Amendment reads:
"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
Very simply written - yet very specific.
The purpose of this amendment is actually expressly stated in that first section of the sentence. It is intended for "...the security of a free state..."
A FREE STATE.
Not for home defense, or hunting or sporting applications as some elected representatives or appointed judges try to say it means (adding in their own interpretation to fit their specific agenda).
Though arms may also be used for home or sport, the primary purpose is to ensure Liberty for all Citizens - through "...the security of a free state."
Drop the mic.
The only agenda of our Founders was to ensure that, through the ages, we are able to keep our Freedom, our Liberty, which they fought so hard to attain.
Let us continue. As to militia.
There are those who have tried to say that the militia must be the National Guard.
That is NOT what our Founders intended nor said.
Founder Melancton Smith expressed this: "A militia when properly formed are in fact the people themselves...and include all men capable of bearing arms...To preserve liberty it is essential that the whole body of the people always posses arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them..."
President George Washington stated, "...the Citizens of America (with a few legal and official exceptions) from 18 to 50 Years of Age should be borne on the Militia Rolls, provided with uniform Arms, and so far accustomed to the use of them, that the Total strength of the Country might be called forth at Short Notice on any very interesting Emergency."
And George Mason, Father of the Bill of Rights and co-author of 2A, had this to say, "...the people have a Right to mass and to bear arms; that a well regulated militia composed of the Body of the people, trained to arms, is the proper natural and safe defense of a free state..."
Notice both Smith and Mason refer to all the people, the body of people. Why Washington limited the age to 50 is anyone's guess. Perhaps because the expected life span was shorter then. Perhaps he did not wish to put older people in harm's way. Regardless, he does say that the Citizens of America form the militia.
Meanwhile, Founder Richard Henry Lee, while not referring to militia, agrees, stating, “To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them…”
As to arms. What are they?
There are those who claim that the Founders could not have envisioned automatic rifles, etc. And, because of this lie, those with an agenda claim that arms must be limited to revolvers, or non-automatic weapons, etc.
That is a crock. There were many among our Founders who were very visionary and could easily envision progress in all areas of life and livingness.
The Founders were adamant that We the People should bear arms for our Freedom, to preserve Liberty, for the security of a free state.
Founder Tench Coxe put it this way, "Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birth-right of an American..."
That last portion is key. Basically, any arm that a soldier has is the "birth-right of an American."
That helps keep the playing field level, as our Founders intended.
In terms of "...shall not be infringed," there is not much to say. It is quite specific in its simplicity.
Yet, politicians and judges keep infringing on the Second Amendment with every law and every ruling where they attempt to regulate or eliminate arms from We the People.
As a side-note, whenever a politician or judge does attempt to take away any part of 2A, they are, in fact, violating their Oath of Office and should be removed. And that is the simplicity of that.
This is the truth and simplicity of the Second Amendment.
It is there for We the People to be able to keep our Liberty. In order to remain Free. It is our Right.
There is little doubt that anyone who attempts to lessen the Second Amendment by limiting arms to small caliber weapons, non-automatic rifles, etc., etc., is attempting to take away our Rights, our Liberty, our Freedom.
It is important that you and your family know and understand your Rights.
It is also important that when you know your Rights are being violated that you speak up. You can, and should, write or call your elected representative (they do work FOR you) and let them know your concerns. Or to put them on notice that they are failing in their job to protect and defend the Constitution.
We can only safeguard our Freedom and ensure our Liberty for ourselves and our posterity if we stay true to our U.S. Constitution.
If needed, there are many ways to learn the basics. You can start by watching the In Search of Liberty Constitution movie. For more in-depth study you can enroll in a one-day Constitution Boot Camp from Building Blocks for Liberty or consider joining KrisAnne Hall's Liberty First University.
