There has been a controversial trend occurring where corporate social media platforms have lessened the reach, temporarily suspended, or altogether taken down the pages and sites of conservative viewpoints. A few that come to mind are Alex Jones, Diamond & Silk, KrisAnne Hall and Prager U. But, there have been countless, lesser known, individuals who have been censored by “Big Corp,” clearly acting in the capacity of Big Brother.
Supposedly these people have violated some policy or other regarding the corporation’s Community Standards, which include such things as hate speech or glorifying or threatening violence.
The comments by Alex Jones appeared to be more in the gray area and really did not seem to fit the punishment bestowed upon him by YouTube, Facebook, Apple and Spotify, especially when there are people and groups on the left with worse comments who remain unscathed with regard to their social media standing.
However, this is not really a defense for Alex Jones or any of the others.
This is to bring something to light which appears odd.
It is known that our U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights were created to ensure that our government does not mess with our unalienable rights. Those documents do not control what a corporation can and cannot do with a citizen’s speech, etc. That is their call.
Unfortunately, when their calls appear to ban opinions and statements that lean more to the right, and leave those who lean more to the left alone, there really is only one logical explanation.
Big Brother Censorship.
And, perhaps, an attempt at Technocracy, the extreme of which is where corporations control everything.
That is something we all need to ensure does not happen.
There are extremists in government who want to take away various of our rights, and have actually done so, little by little, almost without notice. Then there are the corporate conglomerates that get so powerful they feel they can do anything and impose their will on anybody. Without impunity.
Neither is a good thing for your Freedom and Liberty.
However, there is another curious point that comes to mind. If these corporations cannot be governed in their censorship of free speech then why on Earth was a small bakery owner taken to court (all the way to the Supreme Court) for refusing to create a wedding cake for a same sex marriage? The baker offered to make the couple anything else but the couple refused and he faced a lawsuit and numerous court appearances.
No court in America should have even entertained the idea of allowing this to be brought before a judge. The First Amendment had not been violated because the US Constitution does not apply to a company. Period. It is at the discretion of the company if they wish to do business with you or I or anyone. That is simply a fact. Just go buy a cake somewhere else.
Let’s face it, businesses commonly refuse serving people for one reason or another. Ever seen a sign that says “No Shirt. No Shoes. No Service”? Doesn’t that violate freedom of expression? No, not for that business. (And, perhaps, for a restaurant, that could be illegal due to sanitary conditions.)
But I digress.
Remember when Facebook made headlines during the 2016 presidential campaign when former staff stated that the social giant had tampered with its “What’s Trending” algorithm? This was (allegedly) done in order to eliminate any conservative viewpoints while it thrust liberal posts towards the top.
Large behemoths, can, and do, shut down select (and, most likely, targeted) people and viewpoints so that they can forward their own agenda.
When push comes to shove, the only way for a business to stay alive is to make money. So, you do have an option. If you do not like the way that a company treats you or someone you like or follow, you can decide to take your business elsewhere. If enough people #DeleteYourAccount then advertiser revenue will fall and that business may, possibly, come around and be fair to all.

The entertaining and informative In Search of Liberty movie is a great refresher (if it's been a while) or educational tool (for those who know very little) about our U.S. Constitution, and is a movie that All Americans should watch.
