The unanimous decision of the City Council of Boulder, Colorado, to make it illegal, after June 15, 2018, to have in one's possession, to buy or sell or otherwise transfer ownership of “semiautomatic firearms designed with military features to allow rapid spray firing for the quick and efficient killing of humans" is a direct assault on America's right to keep and bear arms.
In essence, with these gestapo-like tactics, the City of Boulder is violating, minimally, the Second, Fifth and 14th Amendments.
In other words, it is un-Constitutional!
Per their ordinance, anyone owning an assault rifle, per their definition, prior to June 15 has four options.
One option, as covered in Subsection (c), is that; a) the owner obtain a background check certification from local law enforcement, b) the weapon(s) is(are) securely stored; and, 3) they only possess the rifle on their own property, or at a gunsmith shop, or at a firing range (licensed) , or while they are traveling to or from one of those few locations.
If the owner doesn't like that, he or she can simply: a) ensure that the rifle leaves the city of Boulder by June 15; 2) make their rifle permanently disabled; or, 3) turn their rifle(s) into local law enforcement.
What is it about "rights" that these people do not understand?
Yes, mass shootings are horrible, but the fact is that it is people who kill people. You do not blame the object that is used, because the object is not responsible, the person is.
Using the insane logic of the left, anything that could be used as a weapon to kill someone should be banned or outlawed (which would include almost anything that has ever been invented or otherwise created).
These people trying to ban guns will not listen to the truth...when public records are available, it has shown that all of over 20 mass shooters were on or were coming off of psychotropic drugs. THAT is the culprit. Not the gun. Read the possible side effects of these seriously mind-altering drugs.
Those who push to ban any or all guns also do not get that disarming honest, law abiding citizens does NOT ensure their, nor anyone else's, safety...quite the opposite. Criminals will obtain weapons any way they can, mostly illegal anyway. They do not care if the specific weapon is banned.
Regardless of any and all of this, the truth of the matter is that the Second Amendment does not give us the right to defend ourselves with arms -- bearing arms it is not a right that can be given or taken away by any man-made law.
It is an inalienable right. Period.
The U.S. Constitution does not exist to give or grant us any rights whatsoever. Those rights are inherent in each and every one of us, as American citizens.
The U.S. Constitution was created to frame a limited, non-invasive, government to ensure that all of our natural rights could be exercised freely.
It is what has made this country great.
Only by ensuring that the Constitution and Amendments remain intact and are not perverted by state or local ordinance will America remain the Land of the Free.
As the only real free people on planet Earth, we cannot allow Socialists, Communists, Leftists, or anyone at all, to take away, subvert or infringe any of our rights. If we allow that ... we are doomed. If we prevent it ... we remain the Land of the Free.

The entertaining and informative In Search of Liberty movie is a great refresher (if it's been a while) or educational tool (for those who know very little) about our U.S. Constitution, and is a movie that All Americans should watch.
